“It’s more powerful 🥊 to speak up than to stay silent 🙅🏽‍♂️🙅🏽”

Steve was born to an average income earning family. His life was as smooth as a trial 🛣️ from his childhood 🧒🏻 till college 🏫.

Steve’s life turned around when he joined as an Intern in THJ Incorporation to pursue his Master’s in Business Administration. He got assigned to Boston branch under Thanos as Business Development Assistant. Thanos appeared across several journals and newsletters for his exemplary skills in turning around THJ Incorporation from a loss-making company into profit making company. Along with Steve, Sam joined on the same day. Steve and Sam were excited to work under a profound personality.

Steve and Sam were excited on their first day of work. They were asked to punch papers, staple them & file them 📑. Day after day, week after week, month after month, all they did was punching papers, stapling papers & filing them 📑. Their excitement lapsed over time. They were never involved in the core areas 📊📈📉. Steve and Sam jointly pleaded Thanos to involve them in Business Development arena. Thanos emphatically made them to mop 🧹 the floors. They felt disheartened in the way Thanos treated them. Thanos never involved them in the core areas 📊📈📉.

6 months later, a new Intern Ronan, got registered under Thanos. Ronan was involved in the core areas 📊📈📉 as soon as he joined. He neither punched papers, stapled papers nor filled them 📑. This instance broke their hearts.

8 months passed with their broken hearts. March to mid of May, Steve went off for his Exam holidays 🏘️. Sam was left all alone to suffer. Sam called Steve, telling that he’s going to stay in this company for him. Steve said to Sam “never do that? I’m either going to apply for internship elsewhere or I’ll request for a shift to New York Branch after I’m done with my MBA exams.” The very next day Sam entered into Thanos chambers. In a feeble voice he requested for a transfer. With lot of hassles, Sam was re-assigned to New York. Steve felt happy that he was able to make Sam’s life better.

Steve returned from exam holidays 🏘️. He was welcomed with mop 🧹 & broom stick. Thanos was busy ⌚ chasing clients. At that time, Steve thought what Ferruccio Lamborghini would do? ………. Lamborghini would have spoken up. He thought to himself that he was able to make Sam speak up to Thanos. Now it’s time for him to speak up. Sadly, Thanos was not present at office that moment. His heart spoke to him, “It’s now or never”.

Steve mustered up all the courage and called Thanos over phone 📲, telling Thanos that he wanted to meet him in person. Thanos replied in a hurry, “Whatever it is, tell it over phone 📲 itself?” Steve said in a mild tone, “I want to get relocated to New York branch”. Thanos angrily replied “you can leave right away. I do not want people who are not grateful.” Within seconds everyone present at the office started to stare at Steve. Steve knew Thanos would have sent some message in the whatsapp group. The message stated that, Steve is following the footsteps 👣 of Sam. Steve was removed from the group.

Steve got re-assigned to New York branch one week later. He learned about Business Strategies along with Sam. He got to take 2 outstation 🌇 assignments which went exceptionally well. One at Caribbean & the other one at San Antonio. Steve met several people across his work.

All this happened because Steve spoke-up 📢. Steve spoke-up 📢 despite the fear of Thanos’s fame & authority. If Steve hadn’t spoken-up 📢, none of this would have happened.

Speak-up 📢, my dear readers. You need not have the power or fame to speak up. Be the change by speaking-up.

  1. It’s common in my culture (Javanese) that it’s a shame to speak up. We even have a proverb called “mikul ndhuwur mendhem njero” which means in liberal way is “positive vibes only”. Speak up especially communicating negative things will help us to be a better person. Speak up!

  2. Really touching story. Indians usually have a little lag and hesitate to speak up. You rightly pointed out Antonio “If not now, then when.”
